Rule of Wolves
In Bardugo’s conclusion to her King of Scars duology, Fjerda's massive army prepares to invade Ravka. Nikolai Lantsov will summon every bit of his ingenuity and charm—and even the monster within—to win this fight. Zoya Nazyalensky has lost too much to war and she refuses to bury another friend. Duty demands she embrace her powers to become the weapon her country needs, no matter the cost. Deep undercover, Nina Zenik risks discovery and death as she wages war on Fjerda from inside its capital.
Rule of Wolves was as brilliant as I expected, which didn’t surprise me at all. I’ve loved every book Bardugo has written, and Wolves was a wonderful conclusion to her most recent duology. I liked the fast pace and how she tied up all the storylines that carried over from King of Scars. Yet she also left it open-ended enough for the possibility for another book, which I really hope to see. I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters just yet!
Nikolai and Zoya are the best power couple, and I loved reading their romantic storyline. I especially liked how they played to each other’s strengths. This came in handy near the end when Nikolai abdicated the throne in favour of Zoya, knowing she was what the country needed. But Nikolai wasn’t about to abandon Zoya to manage the court on her own. His charisma and problem-solving skills are exactly what Zoya needs to help move Ravka into a state of peace. I desperately want a short story about these two – I couldn’t get enough!
I’m glad Bardugo decided to bring back a few characters from her previous books in the Grishaverse series. I missed Alina and was excited to see her included throughout the book, especially at the end when Zoya was coronated. I’m excited to see what Bardugo does with Kaz’s gang in future books, since the ending suggested there was the potential for Ravka to need Kaz’s skills.
Rule of Wolves is an exceptional addition to Bardugo’s Grishaverse series that fans will love.
