Small Town Hearts
Lillie Vale’s Small Town Hearts is the perfect summer read that will have you day dreaming about sandy beaches and ocean waves.
Fresh out of high school, Babe Vogel should be thrilled to have the whole summer at her fingertips. She loves living in her lighthouse home in the sleepy Maine beach town of Oar’s Rest and being a barista at the Busy Bean, but she’s totally freaking out about how her life will change when her two best friends go to college in the fall. Her ex-girlfriend is back in town and there’s a summer boy named Levi Keller who is all kinds of cute. Babe’s summer isn’t going as planned, but it might be just what she needs.
Vale’s cover design grabbed my attention immediately, but what kept me reading about Babe and her crazy summer was Vale’s writing style. She did a great job getting me into the mind of eighteen-year-old Babe, who’s just trying to enjoy her summer with her two best friends. Although I liked that this was a quick read, I almost wish it was longer; I didn’t want to leave Babe behind!
The romance between Babe and Levi was so sweet it almost gave me cavities – but in a good way! It was the perfect love story for a beach read like Small Town Hearts. It had all the classic aspects of a romance novel and ended with a very satisfying happily-ever-after. This is a great book for teens looking for something to take them to the lake or the cabin!
My only complaint was Babe’s mother. I couldn’t understand how any responsible parent would let their kid move into a lighthouse on their own while they work on a cruise ship most of the year. I get that this worked better for the plot, but it just seemed unrealistic.
Small Town Hearts is a sweet story that will leave you wishing for summer.
