Six Books for Six Months of 2020
One of the silver linings of this pandemic are it’s given me more time to read. The first six months of 2020 were filled with amazing books. Below are some books I’m really looking forward to reading in the next six months!
Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power
Ever since Margot was born, it’s been just her and her mother. But that’s not enough for Margot. She wants family. She wants a past. And she just found a photograph, pointing her to a town called Phalene. Margot’s mother left for a reason. But was it to hide her past? Or was it to protect Margot from what’s still there?
Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar
The daughter of a star and a mortal, Sheetal is used to keeping secrets. When an accidental flare of her starfire puts her human father in the hospital, Sheetal needs a full star's help to heal him. Sheetal's quest to save her father will take her to a celestial court of shining wonders and dark shadows, where she must take the stage as her family's champion in a competition to decide the next ruling house of the heavens--and win, or risk never returning to Earth at all.
The Girl of Hawthorn and Glass by Adan Jerreat-Poole
Eli isn’t just a teenage girl — she’s a made-thing the witches created to hunt down ghosts in the human world. Trained to kill with her seven magical blades, Eli is a flawless machine, a deadly assassin. But when an assignment goes wrong, Eli starts to question everything she was taught. Worried that she’ll be unmade, Eli gets caught up with a group of human and witch renegades, and is given the most difficult and dangerous task in the worlds: capture the Heart of the Coven.
Among the Beasts and Briars by Shannon Dittemore
Cerys is safe in the kingdom of Aloriya. But as Aloriya prospered, the woods grew dark, cursed, and forbidden. Cerys knows this all too well: when she was young, she barely escaped as the woods killed her friends and her mother. Now Cerys carries a small bit of the curse—the magic—in her blood.
As a new queen of Aloriya is crowned, things long hidden in the woods descend on the kingdom. It’s up to Cerys to find the legendary Lady of the Wilds and beg for a way to save her home. But the road is darker and more dangerous than she knows, and as secrets from the past are uncovered amid the teeth and roots of the forest, it’s going to take everything she has just to survive.
Rebel Rose by Emma Theriault
It's 1789 and France is on the brink of revolution. Belle has finally broken the Enchantress's curse, restoring the Beast to his human form as Prince Adam, and bringing life back to their castle in the province of Aveyon. But in Paris, the fires of change are burning, and it's only a matter of time before the rebellion arrives on their doorstep.
Belle has always dreamed of leaving her provincial home for a life of adventure. But now she finds herself living in a palace, torn between her roots as a commoner, and her future as a royal. When she stumbles across a mysterious, ancient magic that brings with it a dire warning, she must question whether she is ready for the power being thrust on her, and if being Queen is more than just a title.
A Sky Beyond the Storm by Sabaa Tahir
Laia of Serra, now allied with the Blood Shrike, struggles to recover from the loss of the two people most important to her. Determined to stop the approaching apocalypse, she throws herself into the destruction of the Nightbringer. In the process, she awakens an ancient power that could lead her to victory or an unimaginable doom.
Deep in the Waiting Place, the Soul Catcher seeks only to forget the life--and love--he left behind. Yet doing so means ignoring the trail of murder left by the Nightbringer and his jinn. To uphold his oath and protect the human world from the supernatural, the Soul Catcher must look beyond the borders of his own land. He must take on a mission that could save--or destroy--all that he knows.
